This lecture summarizes the mechanisms of immune responses mounted against organ transplants (allografts). It covers major and minor histocompatibility antigens, direct and indirect allorecognition, hyperacute graft rejection mediated by alloantibodies, and the mechanism of action of several immunosuppressive drugs administered to transplant recipients.
This video discusses two interesting cases related to transplantation immunology, which are graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD) and fetal tolerance during pregnancy. All figures are either from Janeway's Immunobiology (9th ed.) or other publications where noted, or my own original figures.
