IN THE BATTLE AGAINST
HOW COVID-19 TESTS WORK?
When you first become infected with COVID-19, the virus enters your body.
You may start to show symptoms in the following week. The time between getting infected
with the virus and the moment when you get the first symptoms is called the incubation period.
In the first few weeks, the virus multiplies in your body and
you can get symptoms of COVID-19. You are now in the infection phase.
A few weeks after you get COVID-19, your body will enter a third
phase, in which it produces an immune response to fight the virus.
In 2022 there will be thousands of different antigen mutated variants.
The Panbio uses and conservative region that is unlikely to mutate.
No antigen uncompatibilities have been found till july 2021.
We will update this information and all users if variations will occur that will not been detected by the Abbott Panbio test kit.
During the first 2 weeks of your illness, the COVID-19 virus multiplies in your body
and the RNA (ribonucleic acid) of the virus becomes detectable. Over time, it takes
number of viruses while your body fights the infection.
Antigens are proteins that are part of the virus. Since these antigens
are part of the virus, they rise and fall with the virus.
A few weeks after the infection starts, your body makes antibodies.
Antibodies are not part of the virus. They fight the virus to help you get better.
THE COVID-19 TESTS
VIRAL RNA ANTIBODY
Detects the RNA from
the COVID-19 virus
Detects the antigens
of the COVID-19 virus
Detects the antibodies that
made by your body
THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF COVID-19 TESTS,
ONE FOR EACH CURVE
To detect the COVID-19 virus, you will be given a viral RNA test. These are often molecular
called tests. Usually for this test, a sample is taken from your nose or with a cotton swab
Antigen tests are specifically designed to detect COVID-19 antigens. For these tests
usually used a cotton swab to take a sample from your nose or throat.
Antibody tests are also called immunoassay or serology tests. Become antibodies
found in your blood, so a blood sample is used for this test.

THE RIGHT TEST
TIME A: IMMEDIATELY AFTER EXPOSURE
Imagine you've been in contact with someone who has COVID-19.
You could get yourself tested right away, at time point A.
TIME A: DETECTION IS UNLIKELY
At time point A, it is unlikely that a test will be positive, even if you have COVID-19,
because you are in the incubation period. The virus, antigen and antibodies are
not yet risen enough to be detectable.
TIME B: DURING THE INFECTION
If you are tested for time point B, soon after you develop symptoms
you probably have a viral RNA or antigen test, since both are now in your
body are multiplying.
VIRUS INTRODUCES ANTIBODY
TIME B: VIRUS / ANTIGEN LIKELY POSITIVE
At time point B, a viral RNA or antigen test will likely be positive. But now if you have one
antibody test, it will likely be negative because there are no antibodies yet
created. You may have heard this called "false negative"
